Space Bomber Description
Space Bomber was made in 1998. Psikyo produced Space Bomber and released the arcade game in Japan only.
Space Bomber plays similarly to Space Invaders and other arcade top-down shooters.
It sets itself apart with it’s wild enemy types. The Space Bomber also is unique with its crane shot that allows you to take control of an enemy’s powers.
Space Bomber Arcade Gameplay
You can use your crane ability to grab enemies in front of you. You are able to hold as many enemies as you want.
Press the secondary attack button when you control an enemy to use their special power. This can be shooting the enemy forward as a bomb. Or use them as a shield or turret. There are a crazy amount of enemy types for you to grab to use their different abilities.
“P” upgrades can be collected to shoot faster and with more lasers.
Collect money bags from slain enemies to rank up points for a high score.
Space Bomber’s Weird Enemies
Space Bomber has the weirdest story of any game I have played. Let’s go over some of the levels and bosses you encounter in the arcade game and you can see for yourself if you can follow the weird story.
Space Bomber World 1
The 1st level has you shooting octopi in New York by the Statue of Liberty. World 1 ends with this crazy trashcan final boss.
Space Bomber World 2
The second stage is in the forest with waterfalls. You fight a flying pig ship in this area!
Space Bomber World 3
Ancient ruins are the location for level 3. Pyramids can be seen in the background. You fight golden skulls and the final boss fight is with a giant “Aztec” statue.
Space Bomber World 4
The weird story progresses and in level 4 you are back in New York but a large spaceship is floating ominously above. The boss here is the strangest and best yet! The first stage of the fight is a large atomic bomb. Once you defeat this stage a toy monkey pops out of it.
Space Bomber World 5
The difficulty ramps up here. Setting is up in space with floating ancient ruins. A large ship with claws is the boss.
Space Bomber World 6
For the final level, you fight the trashcan boss again. This time it is gold, though. And more powerful. Once defeated, a small head appears. Defeat the head and you finished Space Bomber the crazy arcade game.
